Artist Statement

Hola! I’m Cassandra Lockwood and I’ve lived in New Mexico for the last 20 years. Originally from Michigan, I attended Kendall College of Art and Design in the mid nineties. Received my BFA in Painting in 1997. Grad school was a bit different, as I received my MA in History in 2003. It’s a great combination and has provided many opportunities. I worked in three different museums for nearly 10 years, in positions of curator, educator and museum

school coordinator. In the last 10 years, I’ve been working for non-profits in my area, including animal rescue.

I’ve been involved in Art Prize, the Organ Mountain Desert Peaks National Monument Artist Residency, the Border Artists non-profit and exhibit regularly. My last major art residency was at the Golden Apple Artist Residency in Harrington, Maine in 2023. Life is art in my world. There’s so much to see!
