Kristal Rivera Peña Artist Statement:
Kristal Rivera Peña is a Mexican artist born in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, whose passion for art began at an early age. Raised in a creative environment by her mother, artist Maritza Peña Porraz, she developed a lifelong appreciation for artistic expression and storytelling.
Her artistic foundation was built through formal art classes, a fascination with anime and Japanese culture, the study of color theory, figure drawing, modeling, and continuous exploration of traditional and digital techniques. Over the years, she has developed a versatile skill set, working confidently with watercolor, markers, graphite, and digital media.
Grounded in strong fundamentals of color theory and anatomy, Kristal creates artwork driven by imagination, emotion, and curiosity. Her work draws inspiration from Japanese culture, fairy tales, fantasy, and the rich traditions of her Mexican heritage, blending these influences into vibrant, expressive illustrations that continue to evolve with each new creation.
Rather than limiting herself to a single style, Kristal embraces artistic growth and experimentation, believing that every piece is an opportunity to discover something new. Her art reflects both technical discipline and creative freedom, resulting in work that is constantly transforming alongside her as an artist.
Maritza Peña Artist Statement:
Every work in this exhibition is a chapter of my life. Together, these paintings tell the story of an artist in constant evolution—a journey shaped by curiosity, discipline, perseverance, and an unwavering love for beauty. Each brushstroke reflects not only the skills I have learned, but also the emotions, dreams, challenges, and hopes that have guided me along the way.
Above all, this exhibition is a tribute. It is dedicated to the extraordinary teachers and mentors who opened doors for me, challenged me to grow, and believed in my potential. Their wisdom, generosity, and passion became woven into my own artistic language. Through their guidance, I discovered that art is not merely something we create—it is something that transforms us.
As I look back on this collection, I see more than paintings. I see the hands that taught me, the voices that encouraged me, and the countless moments that shaped the artist I continue to become. It is my deepest hope that these works inspire others to recognize the profound influence a teacher can have on a student's life. Every artist carries within them the legacy of those who helped illuminate the path forward.
With heartfelt gratitude, I dedicate this exhibition to my teachers, whose influence will forever live within every canvas I create.
My first art teacher was my uncle, who taught me that every line begins with courage. He encouraged me to practice relentlessly, guiding me through exercises, paintings, and drawings that laid the foundation for my artistic journey. From those first sketches to this exhibition, every mentor I have encountered has left an enduring mark on both my heart and my work.
This collection stands as a celebration of their impact and a testament to the power of teaching, mentorship, and the transformative nature of art itself.as Art Gallery.
